Watercolors can be used in a variety of ways in making portraits. They can be used to provide color to an ink drawing all the way to producing the completed portrait.
How it was done - I began this with a quick pencil sketch. Once I was satisfied with the sketch, I added the watercolors colors, mostly wet on to dry. Inasmuch as I was on a ship, I used the set of watercolors I take along when traveling. They are made by Winsor Newton and by Prima Marketing. (The colors in the two boxes are somewhat different). The paper is Winsor Newton cold press 140 lbs.
