Calder
Valda did several portraits of artists that she admired. Often she knew the artist that was the subject. However, there is no record of her having met Alexander Calder, who is seen here working on a mobile. This canvas was stored separately from the other MFA project canvases and therefore was believed lost for many years. Acrylic on raw canvas. |
George Harrison tribute
This canvas was done for the MFA Project. However, it was considered too representational by the faculty adviser and thus was not included in the final group submitted for the degree. Valda liked George Harrison's music, feeling that it symbolized the spirit of the time. She saw him in London when he was with The Beatles and attended one of his solo concerts in New York.
