MFA PROJECTHaving done numerous murals, Valda was used to painting on a large scale. However, at four feet by four feet, the MFA paintings are larger than most canvases that she painted. They also differ from her other works in that they are on un-primed, raw canvas. The vague, dream-like effect was achieved by using sponges to apply the acrylic paint. Each of the final canvases has a bare frame made of strips of pine wood, an idea developed by Valda's husband George Wagner.
