EARLY DRAWINGSThe ninth drawing in the portfolio is of the gangster John Dillinger who became a folk legend during the Great Depression. He robbed banks in parts of the Midwest until he was killed in a gun battle with the FBI in 1934. Valda's drawing appears to be derived from a mug shot of Dillinger.
